This year, we’ve sponsored a High-Tech Hydroponic Vertical Farm Project for IE Agribusiness Club, at IE Business School, Madrid, Spain. which has been now officially opened for indoor-farming purposes. Bravo!! Team IE Agribusiness Club for steering this significant project towards a huge success!!

We’ve decided to build a hydroponic farm from scratch to offer fresh locally grown veggies to our university campus. Hydroponic is especially relevant today since it allows to grow food with up to 98% less water and uses up to 99% less space than traditional farming. We’ve also used this project to experiment with some of the learning from our Data Science master to develop a computer vision app to monitor the farm hour to hour. This object detection algorithm monitors the growth of the plants and detects all sorts of anomalies to cut down the maintenance’s time. We managed to reach an accuracy of 87.2% for our model thanks to the precious help and guidance from our key partners and club members. The first harvest should be ready in a few weeks, if you’re around Madrid, don’t forget to come and taste the greens!
